It boosts moisture levels in the stratum corneum, reducing the transepidermal loss of water, and maintains the natural smoothness and elasticity of the skin. Its mechanism of action is based on its status as a component of coenzyme A, a substance required in numerous biochemical processes and, in general, it acts as a cofactor in acetylation reactions.
